IMPORTANT: New Helmet rule!!

GMHA has just been advised by Hockey Canada that effective yesterday, all players must have a CSA approved helmet and Referees will be checking for this. The CSA sticker should be visible on the helmet. The Refs will be checking for this during the pre-game warmup and will give a warning if the sticker in not on the helmet. Once the game starts if a player is on the ice, they will receive a two minute penalty and will not be allowed to play until they have the proper helmet with the CSA approved sticker.

GMHA February 2010 Townhall Meeting

We are holding our second Townhall meeting at the GMHA office on Thursday February 25th, 2010. While we would like to encourage the membership to submit agenda items, one large topic will be: Options for 2010 season when facing large cost increases on Ice. As you know from other posts, Guelph City Council has increased the cost of ice rentals by 10% and at this point we will also be facing a further 8% increase with the implementation of the HST. (Harmonized Sales Tax) We have several options, increase fees, descrease services, some form of both.

We would like to get feedback from the membership on this issue, what ideas to you have? We would also like to have an idea of how many people might attend. If you have agenda items, ideas or can just give us an idea of who would be attending please send an email by clicking on this link.

H1N1 Notes from Hockey Canada

There have been some questions regarding the H1N1 virus and hockey, here is a document from Hockey Canada and their advice for parents regarding this virus.

From the Director of Representative and Director of House League Hockey:

Due to the H1N1 issues there will be no more handshakes at the games. The refs have been instructed not do so do either. You can just nod your head and say good game etc...

As for the players please tell them to keep their gloves on when they line up for their pregame handshake, they can touch the other players gloved hand.

Please remind your team the importance of safety here ie NO sharing water bottles, cover their mouths when coughing, Do not share towels or personal hygiene products in the change room. If your players are ill they should NOT be coming to a game or practice, stay home and get rest.

Director of Rep Hockey, Lisa Buck
Director of House League Hockey, Sue Sacco

Committee Volunteers needed

Smiling kids? Growing hockey skills? Increasing fitness?

We all know that “many hands make light work” right? Can you spare 1-2 hours per week, meet likeminded people and improve the quality of hockey for our young players?

GMHA could really use a helping hand as follows:

Communications Committee:

  • Recognize great efforts: write a brief game summary and submit via e-mail to the Guelph Mercury on a weekly basis

Opportunities still exist to help with:

  • Coach Selection Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Player Development Committee

Interested in knowing more? Please send and email to Committee Help and state what committee you would like to help out with.

All our young players appreciate your efforts! Thank you.
