SKILL DEVELOPMENT

    SD1 RULES

As an entry-level age group for organized hockey, the Paperweight Division (ages under 7 years old) will be conducted using the CHA "Chips Program". The following may apply to assist the young hockey player to learn the rules of play gradually.

  • Coaches will split their team up into 2 squads according to their skill level. Only those squads of the same level will play against each other during games.
  • Game day will consist of 2 half-ice pond hockey games. Each game will be 48 minutes in length with 3 x 16 minute periods and a 2-minute warm up.
  • There will be no referees for this division. The home team will supply one timekeeper. This timekeeper will manage both ponds.
  • There are no face offs after the buzzer, and no face-offs throughout the game, with the exception of the start of each period.
  • The puck will be thrown in the corner in the event of a goal or left where it is on a line change.
  • A 2-minute buzzer will signal a change in lines of players. The entire line will leave the ice.
  • In the event of a penalty the play does not stop and the player is removed by the coach from the ice for only the remaining time of their 2-minute shift.
  • There will be no stats (goals, etc.) taken. At the end of each game coaches establish 2 MVP’s for their team for submission to the paper. These names of these players are to be written on the game sheet.
  • Coaches are allowed to be on the ice to assist their players, and officiate as required.
  • At the end of the period teams are to switch ends of the "pond" as in normal game play.
  • A team is allowed to carry up to 18 players. Lines are to consist of up to 4 players.
  • There is no stop time in this division.
  • In the event of an injured player the last period may be shortened to make up for lost time or extra time in assigned timeslot.
  • Assigned time slots must be adhered to.
