
As an entry-level age group for organized hockey, the Paperweight
Division (ages under 7 years old) will be conducted using
the CHA "Chips Program". The following may apply to assist
the young hockey player to learn the rules of play gradually.
- Coaches will split their team up into 2 squads according
to their skill level. Only those squads of the same level
will play against each other during games.
- Game day will consist of 2 half-ice pond hockey games.
Each game will be 48 minutes in length with 3 x 16 minute
periods and a 2-minute warm up.
- There will be no referees for this division. The home
team will supply one timekeeper. This timekeeper will manage
both ponds.
- There are no face offs after the buzzer, and no face-offs
throughout the game, with the exception of the start of
each period.
- The puck will be thrown in the corner in the event of
a goal or left where it is on a line change.
- A 2-minute buzzer will signal a change in lines of players.
The entire line will leave the ice.
- In the event of a penalty the play does not stop and the
player is removed by the coach from the ice for only the
remaining time of their 2-minute shift.
- There will be no stats (goals, etc.) taken. At the end
of each game coaches establish 2 MVP’s for their team for
submission to the paper. These names of these players are
to be written on the game sheet.
- Coaches are allowed to be on the ice to assist their players,
and officiate as required.
- At the end of the period teams are to switch ends of the
"pond" as in normal game play.
- A team is allowed to carry up to 18 players. Lines are
to consist of up to 4 players.
- There is no stop time in this division.
- In the event of an injured player the last period may
be shortened to make up for lost time or extra time in assigned
timeslot.
- Assigned time slots must be adhered to.
