- When do I need to register my child for the next hockey season to be eligible for the early bird discount?
You must register online between May 1 to June 16, 2008 (noon) and complete full payment by June 16, 2008 by noon to be eligible for the early bird discount. On June 16th, noon, 2008 registration will be closed. No registrations will be accepted in July. Registration will reopen again in August 1, 2008 if there are divisions with spots available.

$395.00 for the Midget Division (those players born in 1992 and 1991)
Rep Players who are categorized as waivered or regional pay an additional $100.00 out of town fee.
There are additional fees for Rep, Tyke MD and Select players. These fees will be paid to the team signed, and have been set at $550.00 for Rep, $550.00 for Tyke MD and $275.00 for Select. These will not be due till fall '08

Can I pay with cheques?
No, GMHA has eliminated the acceptance of cheques for registration. We have however increased our payment offerings to include Visa or MasterCard, and Money Orders.

Can I pay with cash?
No, GMHA has eliminated the acceptance of cash for registration. We will however accept Money Orders made out to Guelph Minor Hockey Association. Please make sure that you keep your copy of the Money Order for your records.

Can I pay in installments?
No, however if need be, you can make installments using your own credit card plan.

What equipment does my child need?
Hockey stick, CSA approved helmet with face protector, mouth guard, neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, and athletic supporter with cup/jill strap, hockey pants, shin guards and skates. Mouth guards are not required for skating school.

My child is registering for skating school does he still have to wear full equipment?

What equipment is supplied?
Hockey sweater and hockey socks. We supply goalie equipment for players in Minor Peewee and below in House league and Rep. Goalie sticks are not provided for Rep players.

How do I know my registration is confirmed?
When you submit your registration form online, you will receive confirmation that your payment has been received. Once your status has changed, then an email will be sent to you informing you of this. If you have paid by credit card then you will also receive confirmation of this transaction. A GMHA member acceptance or denial email will be emailed by end of July once your application and payment, and member status has been reviewed. If you do not receive on please email registration@guelphminorhockey.com

When will I be contacted as to what team my child is on?
House league season typically starts the last weekend in September. Everyone should be contacted one week prior. If you have not been contacted by this date, please email the convener for your child's division.

When does the hockey season start?
House league hockey starts the end of September. Schedules will be posted on the web site by early September. As a member we ask that you be responsible for monitoring the association web site. Throughout the season notices, schedules and news is posted.

How many times on the ice does my child play?
House league registrants skate twice per week. Most divisions practice once and play one game per week. Older age (midget) division's play once per week but has longer ice time scheduled for their skate. Skating School is once a week, traditionally Saturday mornings.

When does my child play?
House league registrants practice every week at a variety of times, typically on the same day however times are on a rotating basis.

Can I specify a certain coach or team that I want my child to play for?
Unfortunately with a registration base of approximately 1800 participants, it has become impossible to accommodate special requests. Division conveners are responsible for drafting and balancing the teams. However, we do accommodate siblings registered in the same division. If you are coaching you can ensure your own child will be on your team within our House League system.

Can I request that my child play with his friend for car-pooling purposes?
Again, it is impossible to accommodate special requests. Once the first week of hockey has been played and it is unworkable for you to get your child to the arena, a request in writing can be given to the league convenor and he/she will try to accommodate your situation.

What documentation do I need if I want to coach?
Coaches and trainers are now required to attend clinics sponsored by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association. For information on where to attend these clinics go to www.omha.net GMHA does host some clinics. View them here. Another requirement of the OMHA is a volunteer police check is completed. You may fill out the form found here, and fax this into the office with your application.

Where do I sign up to be a house league coach?
There is an application form which you can submit. As well it is recommended that you contact the division convener to inform them of your intent.

What is IP (initiation program)?
All registrants in our Skill Development 1 and Skill Development 2 (formerly know as paperweight, prenovice house league) rep programs and including Tyke MD, novice house league and rep programs, will include the Canadian Hockey Initiation Program in their hockey curriculum. How can my child take part in GMHA's "IP" program?
As directed by the Hockey Canada, it is required that all their associations implement and adopt the Initiation Program as part of their core introductory programs. Now into its fourth season GMHA run its own variation form of the Initiation Program. There have been many accolades by parents and coaches. If your child is born in 2003, 2002, 2001 please review this chart to see which Level to register your child and what you can expect. Your basic registration fee will make you eligible to participate in this program.

How will I find out my child's house league schedule?
Schedules will be posted on our web site 2 weeks before the start of hockey; they will be also available for pickup during the first 2 weeks of hockey at the arenas.

I have a daughter can I register her with GMHA?
Guelph Minor Hockey Association welcomes all children. We offer a variety of hockey programs to suit all youth at various levels of skill.

Is there a league specifically for girls?
The Guelph Girls Hockey Association is a recreational league for girl's hockey. They are not associated with GMHA. If you would like more information about the Thunders please contact 519-836-4484, or email them at info@ggha.com

Does Guelph Minor Hockey accept players that would like to play house league, however they live in other cities for example Cambridge, Fergus, and Arthur?
No.

But, does Guelph Minor Hockey accept players that would like to play house league, we have heard that Rockwood and Puslinch may play in Guelph?
Yes as only these area are considered "right of choice" as designated by OMHA

What address do I put on the form if we have not moved yet?
Please use your new address when registering. If you do not know of this please indicate this under other notes: so that our registrar can contact you. It is the member's responsibility to notify the hockey office in the event of move or contact information needs to be updated.

During registration I am asked about the publishing of names and scores, what is this about?
It is the policy of the Guelph Minor Hockey to publish member names, goals, assists, or awards earned, or those who participated in association games or events. Guelph Minor Hockey may also use team, action, and award winning pictures for sponsorship plaques, website, newsletters, and newspapers for the sole purpose of "capturing the moment". We do not sell, or trade any pictures. Those members who do not wish to have this information published have the option of identifying this at the time of registration and at the time the award is being presented.
